Research On Crucial Role Of PET-Guided Biopsy In Initial Breast Cancer Diagnosis And Presurgical Planning Published In The Breast Journal
The Breast Journal recently published original prospective data confirming the technical validity of image-guided needle biopsy of suspicious breast cancer lesions using Positron Emission Mammography (PEM)-guidance. The study, which used the Naviscan high-resolution breast PET scanner, otherwise known as a PEM scanner, marks the first time PET imaging alone has been able to target regions in the breast with abnormal FDG uptake and guide the extraction for histopathologic analysis. The main objective of the study was to confirm successful targeting and lesion sampling. A second objective was to confirm the safety and patient comfort during the procedure. Six physicians, using three different commercially available vacuum-assisted biopsy tools, conducted this study at five sites.

Breast Lipomodeling Doesn t Interfere With Mammograms
Lipomodeling a relatively new approach to breast augmentation in which fat is transferred to the breasts from other parts of the body doesn't interfere with routine screening mammograms, reports a study in the March issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® , the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). "Radiographic follow-up of breasts treated with fat grafting is not problematic and should not be a hindrance to the procedure, " concludes the new study, led by Dr. MichaГ"l Veber of University of Lyon-LГ on BГ rard Cancer Center, France. No Increase in Abnormal Mammogram Results After Breast 'Lipomodeling' Originally developed for breast reconstruction surgery, lipomodeling is now being used by some plastic surgeons for cosmetic breast shaping.
UT Health Science Center At Houston Physician Elected President Of Robotic Surgery Association
Erik Wilson, M.D., associate professor and director of the Division of Elective General Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), has been elected president of the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association (CRSA). Robotic surgery involves the use of technology to help surgeons perform complex procedures less invasively. With the aid of a digital surgical platform, surgeons can direct the movement of instruments inserted through incisions no bigger than a dime. This platform allows doctors to tackle more complex procedures such as a gastric bypass, mitral valve repair or prostatectomy. Wilson, who is medical director of bariatric surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, said experience and research have shown that robotic surgery can reduce the risk of certain complications and reduce pain.

AZ-TMJ BOTOX R Treatments Continue To Produce Immediate Relief From The Pain Discomfort Of TMJ Syndrome
AZ-TMJ is continuing to lead the way in innovative and effective treatments for severe cases of TMJ. AZ-TMJ has developed treatment methods using BOTOX ® to ease painful muscle cramping and spasms, a side effect of clenching and grinding of patients' teeth, which are often symptoms associated with TMJ/TMD. Patients who receive this treatment are consistently obtaining relief from their discomfort and often instantaneously. "I have found this treatment to be highly effective in a substantial number of cases where the effects of other treatments are often mitigated by the presence of muscle spasms, " said Dr. Stan Farrell. "The BOTOX® treatment I have developed allows other noninvasive treatments to work much more effectively in these instances.

Do Women With Silicone Breast Implants Need Follow-Up MRI Scans?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration currently recommends regular follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans for women with silicone breast implants. But a new review shows significant flaws in the evidence supporting this recommendation, reports the March issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® , the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Because of these scientific limitations, the available data may overestimate the ability of MRI to detect ruptured breast implants-particularly when scans are performed for screening purposes in symptom-free women. The study was led by Dr. Jae W. Song of University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Liberate Cosmetic Surgery: New Survey Reveals 30 Of Women NEVER Saw Their Cosmetic Surgeon During Treatment, UK
'BYPASS' - Before You Pay, Ask to See Surgeon, says Liberate With the recent deaths following botched cosmetic surgery abroad of 21 year old Claudia Adeseye Aderotimi and former Miss Argentina Solange Magnano, mother of two in Buenos Aires, women still appear to put price above safety. A new survey conducted by Liberate, the UK's largest network of BAAPS* and/or BAPRAS**-accredited cosmetic surgeons, clearly shows the need for women to be better informed about what can go wrong with cosmetic surgery and the importance of knowing the qualifications and experience of their surgeon, to help them make an informed decision. Liberate, which has over 60 locations across the UK, surveyed 3000 women between the ages of 18-34 and found that 30% of women had undergone cosmetic surgery with breast augmentation ("boob job") being the most popular procedure (28%) followed by Nose (17%) eyes (11%) and Liposuction/tummy tuck (15%).
